An opportunity to conduct PhD research project in the context of the programme: MANAGEMENT OF THE SELF: A HUMANITIES APPROACH TO SELF-MANAGEMENT IN PSYCHIATRY AND PSYCHOSOMATIC MEDICINE
This programme consists of two post-doc projects and two PhD projects and will be conducted as part of the Cognitive Humanities Research Programme of the Faculty for Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies of Radboud University Nijmegen. The programme includes collaborations with the University of Amsterdam, Free University Amsterdam, Donders Institute Nijmegen and Dimence GGZ, Zwolle. Programme director is prof.dr. Marc Slors, and the supervisor of this PhD project is prof.dr. Jan Bransen.
The PhD candidate will expected to develop an account of (1) how impaired agency and the psychopathological self can be conceptualized as objects of (moral) concern for the patients themselves, and (2) how this conceptualization contributes to an improved understanding of the (moral) responsibility involved in the management of a patient’s self.
Applicants should have an MA in philosophy, and preferably be acquainted with questions of responsibility, diminished or impaired agency, and self-governance, or, more broadly construed, with questions at the intersection of philosophy of action and moral philosophy.
Starting date of the project is June 1, 2015. To inquire further please contact prof.dr. Jan Bransen. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
