The Journal of Medical Ethics seeks a new editor from June 2011 when the current editors come to the end of their term. The journal, jointly owned by the Institute of Medical Ethics and the BMJ Group, provides an international forum for reasoned interdisciplinary discussion across the whole range of medical ethics issues. It aims to publish articles written in jargon-free English accessible to intelligent readers regardless of their academic discipline and to be relevant to practising doctors and other health care professionals and to medical researchers as well as to academics in bioethics disciplines.
Closing date for applications is 7 January 2011. Interviews will be held in early February at the BMJ Group office, London, UK. Journal activities are likely to occupy approximately up to a day per week. Editors are usually appointed for a 5 year term with a possibility of an extension for up to two additional years.
Joint applications from two or more individuals willing to act as a team will be considered. Applicants need not be based in the UK. Full editorial support and training will be provided.
Applications should include your CV, a letter explaining your interest in the post, your views of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the journal (basic analysis of the journal and its competitors), and your vision for developing the journal and its editorial team. Applications or requests for a job description should be sent to Mrs Claire Weinberg, Journals Manager,
