From the job description: “ARC is a small registered national charity whose remit is to provide specialised information and support to expectant parents throughout antenatal testing and its aftermath.
We are looking for an empathetic individual, committed to ARC’s work, with the dynamism to fulfil a challenging and rewarding role. We are a small charity keen to make a big impact and the post holder will be someone who truly wants to make things happen.
The Liaison and Development Co-ordinator will work as part of the small staff team to ensure that the strategic objectives, as determined by the Trustees, are met. In particular the post holder will be responsible for developing relationships with health care professionals working in antenatal care across the UK. This is a vital part of our work as it enables us to raise awareness of the parental perspective and instigate improvements in the care parents receive at what is often a distressing and sensitive time. He or she will need to maintain and build on the high level of respect ARC has established and help with delivery of our professional training programme. The post holder will also be required to help with production of information materials and the dissemination of ARC’s work to the public, other organisations and the media.
The Liaison and Development Co-ordinator will also handle calls on our national helpline. This involves providing non-directive sensitive information and support to callers who can be very distressed or coping with bereavement.
The post is based in our central London office and will involve some overnight stays and occasional weekend work, for which time off in lieu is provided.
• Promote ARC’s work to health professionals and retain and build sustainable relationships with them
• Develop and deliver projects to help raise standards of care and to disseminate best practice
• Raise awareness of ARC’s work with other key organisations and the media
• Generate funding for ARC through such projects
• Offer sensitive and non-directive information and support to users of the ARC helpline and members of ARC
• Provide information in response to email, postal and telephone enquiries
• To share in the general administration of the office e.g. production of newsletters, Annual General Meetings, conferences and so on.
• To undertake other tasks as specified by the Director and Trustees
Responsible to: The Director. All staff is ultimately accountable to the Trustees and any group of Trustees or sub-committees the Trustees as a whole may elect.
Terms and conditions
Salary: £28,000 + 7% pension contribution
Holiday: 30 days per annum
The successful candidate will need:
• A commitment to a woman’s autonomy in her reproductive decision-making
• The ability to communicate effectively and engage with a variety of audiences
• Excellent presentation skills
• The ability to both self-motivate and work independently and as part of the small ARC team
• The ability to show empathy and sensitivity and capacity to manage the emotional impact of the work
• Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise workload, set and attain realistic goals and monitor outcomes
• To be a quick and keen learner
• An enthusiastic approach to development work
• Self-servicing IT and administrative skills
• Experience of successful training delivery or group facilitation
• Experience of work in or with the voluntary sector
• Experience of helpline or face-to-face support work
• Experience of successful working as part of a small team
• Experience of project management
• Experience of fundraising for projects
Please note that we are not looking to recruit someone with an extensive knowledge of antenatal screening and testing as a full induction is offered. What we are looking for is someone who is enthusiastic about ARC’s work and keen to take it forward.”
