Professor Heather Widdows is seeking to appoint a 10 month research assistant to work on an EU-funded project on the topic of the ethics and governance of biobanks.
The post is a 0.5 post (50%) and the duties of the research assistant are two-fold, including both research and administration. The research assistant is responsible for the day-to-day management and the smooth running of the Tiss.EU project in Birmingham and for contributing to research and publications on the topic as well as for contributing to future bids. A primary responsibility will be to organise and administer a workshop on the ethics and governance of biobanks (3-4 June 2010).
Candidates should have a higher degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant topic area (for example, philosophy, ethics, law, politics). Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team. They should be able to write up research for publication in a variety of modes, including peer-reviewed journals and/or a book and non-academic venues and be willing to contribute to writing bids for future projects.
