News: two more British assisted suicides at Dignitas

The conductor Sir Edward Thomas Downes and his wife Lady Joan have ended their lives at the Dignitas clinic in Zurich. Sir Edward was described as “almost blind and increasingly deaf” in a statement released by the couple’s children, while Lady Joan was described as “terminally ill”. The Metropolitan Police are reported to be investigating the case.

Last year, Dignitas assisted in the suicide of Daniel James, who was paralysed but not terminally ill.
